For more than twenty years the Montreal photographer Benoit Aquin has been contributing to magazines and newspapers such as Voir, Time Magazine, Maclean's, La Presse and the Guardian. He is represented by the New York agency Polaris Images. Aquin sees photography as a tool for social action, using images to document the great humanitarian and ecological issues of our day. His activist photography won an award from the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec in 2006 and, in 2008, he won the prestigious Prix Pictet for his series The Chinese Dust Bowl. His work is found in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Art Bank of the Canada Council for the Arts and the National Archives of Canada. Benoit Aquin's work was shown in the event Habiter organised by VU in 2006.
