Catherine Bodmer
Catherine Bodmer was born in Zurich and has lived and worked in Montreal since 1996. She obtained a diploma from École des Beaux-arts de Lucerne and holds a master's degree in visual arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (1999). By extracting poetry from seemingly banal places and using ordinary materials, her photographs attempt to fuse and confuse real space with an imaginary created out of digital manipulation. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held at venues such as the Clark gallery (Montreal, 2010), Galerie B-312 (Montreal, 2007), the Eyelevel Gallery (Halifax, 2002) and the Kao Yuan Art Center (Kaohsiung, 2005). Her work has also been included in numerous group exhibitions, including Au travail (Musée régional de Rimouski, 2010), Candy Mountain (Latitude 53, Edmonton, 2007) and Nature in the Garage at Gallery 1313 (Toronto, 2006). Catherine Bodmer carried out a residency at the studio of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec in Mexico in 2010. She received the Duke and Duchess of York Prize in photography in 2008.
