Hélène Matte

Hélène Matte is a poet, painter and performer whose provocative and intimate work mingles the political and the poetic. Over the past few years she has participated in numerous events, such as Mois Multi, Manif d'art, Folie/Culture, the FIMU and the Montreal International Literary Festival. Her recital of Chansons dégoulinantes et poèmes acculés au pied du mur was presented in Quebec City, Montreal and Vancouver in 2004 and 2005. The multidisciplinary spectacle Voyage Voyage won the Videre Événement award in 2007, and a DVD of video-poetry entitled Lever du jour sur Kinshasa will be published by Planète Rebelle in 2008. Hélène Matte lives and works in Quebec City, where she was involved for several years in Îlot Fleurie and contributes regularly to the magazine Inter.
