This exhibition catalogue features the work of six artists invited by VU to carry out a photographic mission on Quebec City. Patrick Altman, Mathieu Beauséjour, Ivan Binet, Lynne Cohen, Doyon-Rivest and Isabelle Hayeur took the identifying features of the city as their inspiration for work which explores photography's power to transform the urban landscape. Their themes and approaches are varied, blending history and current events, the real and the imaginary, documents and art. The intelligent and accessible texts by Gilles Pellerin, Marc Grignon and Lisanne Nadeau enquire into the visual imagination of Quebec City's past and present. In different ways, they address the force and frequency of images of Quebec City, which still stamp our idea of the city and even shape its reality.
