This publication explores in greater depth the principal themes of the exhibition When the Mind Hears/La pensée à l'écoute. In this work, with its profound engagement with the human condition, April Hickox draws on her own experience as the mother of a deaf child to raise our awareness of issues related to language acquisition and the difficulty of communicating. Gaëtan Gosselin and Denis Lessard write introductory texts and Janette Platana provides poetic stanzas which add to the effect of the visually evocative photographs.
